The subject of this week's review is the Tarantula keyboard from Razer. The company describes this as the ultimate keyboard for gamers - they say it's created for gamers, by gamers. The Tarantula is Razer's first attempt at creating a keyboard, in this review I'm going to take a look whether it's worth your hard-earned money.

As this is the first review of a Razer product on DV Hardware, I'm first going to give you a little bit of background information. Razer is an American company that makes computer peripherals for gamers, they are best known for their computer mice, but they also have keyboards, mousepads and audio solutions in their product lineup.

The company was found in 1998 and they gained quite a lot of popularity with their Boomslang gaming mice.

After that we didn't see much exciting products from Razer for a couple of years, but in 2004-2005 they made a comeback with new optical mice for gamers.

It only makes sense that after tuning the lowly mouse to gamer specifications, the various input device makers would turn their attention to keyboards. Razer's new $99 Tarantula gaming keyboard is not the first of this new breed, but it's definitely one of the best. It's also one of the most expensive. Still, if you're willing spend a little bit more for gaming-input precision, then the Tarantula should be your pick. Among other reasons, it has more out-of-the-box features that will matter to gamers as soon as they set it up.

This black beauty has all the potential to be a gamer’s best friend, but is the Razer Tarantula Gaming Keyboard poisonous enough to make its competitors shudder at the thought?
In the late 90’s Razer introduced their first piece of gaming hardware, the “Boomslang” a 2000 DPI Gaming Mouse. Since then, Razer has produced many other high end gaming peripherals. These include the “Copperhead” Mouse which uses it’s own firmware and has a 32kb onboard memory. Recently, Razer has also started producing gaming sound ware with the recent release of their “Barracuda” Gaming Headphones" and the “Barracuda” AC1 Gaming Sound Card”.
