For computer systems such as laptops and desktops a common component usually found on them is an optical drive. These optical drives enable us to use standard and recordable media such as CD, CD-R, CD+R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW; allowing users to listen to music, watch movies, play games and even to record onto them.

Versatile Data Storage

These media discs are incredibly versatile form of storage, but to be able to use them we need a suitable hardware device. This is where optical drives come in. These optical drives can be easily installed into a computer system and once installed they can then read the data from these media discs through our computer system.

Multi-Functional Optical Drives

Some optical drives can only play one format while other can access them all. For example CD optical drives cannot play back any DVD formats, whereas DVD can playback both types.
